Trinity Presbyterian Church (TPC) was born as a church plant from Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Annapolis (Annapolis EP), a Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) congregation that has planted multiple churches in the surrounding area over several decades.
Our founding pastor, Tom Wenger Jr. (“Pastor Tom”), orchestrated TPC’s launch while serving as Pastor of Discipleship at Annapolis EP. Tom’s young adult Bible study and his college and career Sunday School class attracted young adults eager to study God’s Word and Reformed theology. For a year prior to TPC’ s founding, Pastor Tom led a Sunday School class titled “What Is the Church?” which defined our church’s distinctives and assembled a core group of founding members.
Trinity held its first service on Sunday, January 12, 2014, at Crofton Woods Elementary School in Crofton, Maryland with 240 people in attendance. Along with many from Tom’s Bible study and Sunday School classes, TPC was launched with a temporary session of five ruling elders from Annapolis EP. Many Annapolis EP members also committed to staying for at least a year, and many made TPC their home church.
On January 11, 2015, TPC was particularized in the PCA and Pastor Tom was installed as Pastor/Teaching Elder, along with six ruling elders and eleven deacons.
In early March 2020, COVID restrictions forced TPC to continue its services via pre-recorded services. Since public schools did not allow students or tenants back into their buildings for more than a year, TPC met outside in church members’ yards, at Rockbridge Academy in Crownsville, and at Severna Park Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
When public schools resumed normal operations in the fall of 2021, TPC began worshiping at Crofton High School, where we still meet today. While we continue to live-stream our services for those unable to attend in person, we believe that weekly, in-person fellowship during gospel-centered worship is essential to our church’s health and to our members’ spiritual well-being.
On September 11, 2023, Pastor Tom died unexpectedly at the age of 49 after a brief illness. Our church’s shock and grief were deepened by the loss of another young husband and father who was a longtime member of our congregation two months later. Tom’s legacy was apparent by the outpouring of support from the local community, a funeral service attended by more people than Annapolis EP could hold in several sanctuaries, and a church that cleaves to the principles for worship that he established at TPC.
While we wrestled with our grief and cared for Tom’s family, TPC enjoyed faithful support from the Chesapeake Presbytery, guest preaching from PCA ministers and visiting missionaries, and assurance from the promises God gives us in His Word. By God’s grace, the steady leadership of TPC’s officers, and a committed congregation, TPC has continued to worship, grow, and thrive since Pastor Tom’s death.
In November 2023, the congregation elected a Pastoral Search Committee (PSC) tasked with recommending a new senior pastor to the congregation.
In March 2024, Trinity welcomed Interim Pastor Doug Stelzig and his wife Cindy to our church family. During his ministry, Pastor Doug faithfully preached through 1 Peter, taught a Sunday School course on Acts, and led the congregation through a study of John. His knowledge of church polity as a PCA Teaching Elder was a boon to our session, and his pastoral care provided wonderful comfort to our members.
In October 2025, the PSC presented Dr. Chris Jameson to the Trinity congregation as a candidate for Senior Pastor. During his visit weekend, Dr. Jameson preached to Trinity, and his family met our congregation at a number of events. Ultimately, the Trinity congregation voted unanimously to call Chris Jameson to be our next pastor. While Chris completed the ordination process at Chesapeake Presbytery and settled his family in Maryland, Trinity continued to be blessed by Pastor Doug’s ministry.
After many written exams and multiple interviews with Chesapeake Presbytery, Dr. Chris Jameson was ordained as a teaching elder in the PCA and installed as Trinity Presbyterian Church’s Senior Pastor on January 17, 2026. The service, hosted by Annapolis EP, featured pastors and mentors that encouraged and prepared Chris and his family for God’s call to ministry. It also formally dismissed the Pulpit Search Committee — nine members who worked tirelessly to find our pastor. We at Trinity remain in awe of God’s covenant faithfulness to His people and look forward to many years of preaching, teaching, and shepherding from Pastor Chris.
